Why have orthodontic treatment?

According to Australian Society of Orthodontics, people have orthodontic treatment to improve the appearance, health and function of their teeth.

Most people value the appearance of their face and straighter teeth can play an important part in improving the overall look of your smile.

With today’s understanding of oral hygiene, your teeth should last a lifetime - wouldn't it be nice if they looked good too?

Crowded teeth are more difficult to properly brush and floss, which may contribute to tooth decay and gum disease.

Whilst it is possible to keep even the most crooked teeth clean, having your teeth straightened will make it easier for you to look after them.

Tooth wear

Crowded teeth and bad bites (malocclusions) can lead to clenching, grinding, and excessive wear and/or uneven wear of the teeth. Other problems include protruding teeth that are more susceptible to accidental chipping and trauma.

Gum trauma

In severe malocclusions the teeth can damage the gum. For example, in cases of deep bite, the lower front teeth can bite into the gum behind the upper front teeth.

Jaw joint problems

Some bad bites, such as cross bites can result in unfavourable growth and this can stress the jaw joint causing damage and pain in and around the joint.

Some people have difficulty speaking properly because of alignment problems with their teeth and jaws; for example, open bites can result in tongue-thrusting habits and speech impediments.

At Rosalie Dental, we aim to offer affordable treatment for children’s orthodontic, and the most comfortable braces systems for our patients.

Children choose either:

  • metal braces (the smallest, smoothest and most comfortable), or
  • white braces (less visable, more hidden).

And of course, your child can get creative with elastic colours

For parents, we offer very affordable orthodontic costs and payment options to maximize your comfort while providing this wonderful service for your child.

For adults, in addition to metal braces and white braces, we provide three state of the art cosmetic options to straighten your teeth:

  • Invisalign
  • Smilefast Magic Braces
  • Lingual Braces

All treatment options and costs include retainers. And your straight teeth are guaranteed for a lifetime. This means that if you present in the future with relapse, corrective treatment if at no cost.

Orthodontics FAQs

  • Will they hurt?

Your teeth will feel a little tender when chewing in the first 7 days, so be a little selective in your choice of food. Braces can cause a few sore spots in the first 4 weeks, but dental wax provided will give instant relief.

  • Can you make them invisible?

White braces , Lingual braces, Smilefast Magic Braces and Invisalign have the advantages of being tooth coloured and out of site. Click on them to learn more.

  • How long do I have to wear them?

18 months is a typical full treatment time. 3 months would be a very minor fix up. At the Complimentary consultation you will be told approximately how long your treatment will take.

  • How much do they cost?

A full treatment costs as little as $69 per week for 78 weeks. Click on each orthodontic procedure type to see all treatment costs and payment options.

  • How often do I have to come in?

    Typically every 4-6 weeks.

  • Can I have coloured elastics?

At each visit your elastics are changed. You can choose any colour combination each and every time.

  • Can my private health fund help me?

This depends on which health fund you are with. Many health funds will repay some of the costs of orthodontic treatment depending on the appropraite level of cover. At Rosalie Dental we recommend our patients carefully check the premiums and terms and conditions of their health fund and rebate to determine if they will be benefit from insurance or not.

  • How do I keep my braces clean?

With great commitment. But seriously, you will be given instructions and a kit from our friendly staff at the start of treatment.
