Orthodontics for Adults

Orthodontic treatment for adults generally involved the application of braces to both the upper and lower teeth. However, in some cases Invisalign can be employed to correct a range of issues. As a clear, removable alternative to Invisalign, it is often a preferred treatment option for many patients. For further information regarding Invisalign, click here.
As and adults tooth and jaw development is already compete, orthodontic treatment is primarily concerned with re-positioning the teeth and jaw to create a superior bite and enhance the aesthetics of the patients face and smile and the functionality of the jaw. Some benefits of orthodontic treatment as an adult can include,
- Improved facial, teeth and jaw aesthetics.
- Superior functionality, movement and comfort as a result of a better bite.
- Correct tooth alignment and an even ‘bite’ creates a more even distribution of pressure throughout the jaw, resulting on less stress and strain and reducing the likelihood of your development of TMJ disorder (hyperlink to TMJ page – create one if practice wants?)
- The better positioning of the teeth as a result of orthodontic treatment can enhance the effectiveness of further treatment options such as veneers, bridges, crowns, implants, etc...
As the jaw has already finished development if the problems is particularly severe jaw surgery may be recommended in which case your experience dentist will provide you with a specialist referral.
Predominantly adult orthodontic treatment takes longer to complete than children as the jaws and teeth are less malleable. However, the majority of treatments are still able to be complete in 24 months or less.
At Rosalie Dental we also recognise the importance of aesthetics and we will always endeavour to provide you with all the options and alternatives (if available) and our considered, professional opinion.
